You should not take Balcoltra if you are pregnant. You should not start Balcoltra until 4 weeks after delivery, if you are not breastfeeding. Talk to your doctor about starting Balcoltra after pregnancy.

Cigarette smoking increases the risk of serious cardiovascular side effects (heart and blood vessel problems) from birth control pills, including death from heart attack, blood clots, or stroke. This risk increases with age and the number of cigarettes you smoke. If you are over the age of 35 and smoke, you should not take birth control pills.

The use of birth control pills increases the risk of blood clots, heart attack, and stroke. This risk is also increased if you are over 35 and smoke cigarettes. Talk to your doctor about whether Balcoltra is safe for you.

You should also not take Balcoltra if you have uncontrolled high blood pressure. If your high blood pressure is well controlled with medication, talk to your doctor about whether Balcoltra is a safe option for you.

You should not use birth control pills if you have liver disease or impaired liver function.

You should not use Balcoltra if you have unexplained vaginal bleeding without first talking to your doctor about bleeding irregularities and whether Balcoltra is a safe option for you.

Breast cancer may be sensitive to the hormones in birth control pills. Talk to your doctor about whether Balcoltra is a safe option for you.

Medications for hepatitis C can interact with your birth control. Talk to your doctor about whether Balcoltra is a safe option for you.

Some people can’t take oral birth control pills based on their health status. Your health and history are really important for your doctor to know.
